Travel Through Your History

Choose a history view, revert a mistaken merge while preserving history, and create a hotfix branch from an earlier release. GitComet also shows another worktree’s changes directly in the log.

Steps shown in the video

Recorded on Linux. The shortcuts below match the recording.

  1. Change the history mode to First-parent to follow the mainline, Merges only to inspect merges, or All branches to see the wider graph.
  2. Select the mistaken merge and press R to revert it. Choose the parent belonging to main as the mainline to keep.
  3. Confirm the revert. GitComet creates a new commit undoing the merge’s changes while keeping the earlier history intact.
  4. Right-click a commit from an earlier release and choose Create branch from this commit. Name the hotfix branch and check it out.
  5. Select another worktree’s changes in the log to inspect its work in progress without switching tabs.
