These terms are an agreement between you and AutoExplore Oy, a company registered in Finland (business identity code 3495946-3, VAT FI34959463), registered office Annankatu 11, 53100 Lappeenranta, Finland. In them, "we" and "us" mean AutoExplore Oy, and "you" means the person or organisation using GitComet Pro.
They cover the GitComet Pro software, the account service at pro.gitcomet.dev and its API, and the websites gitcomet.dev and docs.gitcomet.dev. They also contain the licence under which GitComet Pro is supplied — sections 3 and 4 are that licence.
The open-source edition is not covered by these terms. GitComet is distributed under the GNU Affero General Public License version 3, and that licence alone governs your use of it. You do not need an account, you do not need to agree to anything here, and nothing in this document limits the rights the AGPL gives you.
By buying, installing or using GitComet Pro, you agree to these terms.
1. Your account
You need an account to use GitComet Pro. You must be at least 18 years old to purchase GitComet Pro. If you are under 18, you may use GitComet Pro only with the consent of your parent or legal guardian, who must agree to these terms on your behalf. What we do with your personal data is set out separately in our Privacy Policy at https://gitcomet.dev/privacy, which forms part of these terms. Keep your details accurate, keep your credentials to yourself, and tell us at gitcomet@gitcomet.dev if you think somebody else has got into your account.
An account belongs to one person. If your organisation holds the licence, each member signs in as themselves.
You can sign in with a password or through GitHub, GitLab, Microsoft or Bitbucket. An organisation can additionally connect its own single sign-on provider, in which case its administrators control who can sign in.
2. What we provide
GitComet Pro is a desktop Git client with paid capabilities, plus the account service that handles your required account and issues your licence. Forge connections are configured locally and communicate directly with your chosen providers. We may improve, change or withdraw individual capabilities over time.
3. Your licence
While you hold a valid entitlement, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable right to install and use GitComet Pro for your own purposes, personal or commercial. We keep ownership of the software; you are buying a licence to use it, not the software itself.
How the licence is enforced. The client does not decide whether you have paid. It receives a short-lived, cryptographically signed lease from our service that says what you are entitled to, verifies the signature, and enforces what the lease says. This is worth understanding because it has two practical consequences.
Connected devices. You may connect a limited number of devices, currently five. When you connect one more than the limit, the device you have used least recently is disconnected.
Working offline. A lease keeps working without a connection for a limited window, after which the client needs to reach us again. The current windows are:
| What you hold | Keeps working offline for |
|---|---|
| An Early Access License | 90 days |
| An active subscription | 72 hours |
| A subscription in a trial or in payment grace | 24 hours |
We may adjust these limits. The client renews well before the window closes, so in ordinary use you will not notice it. The software also checks for a system clock that has been set backwards, and treats the lease as expired until the clock is correct again.
4. What you may not do
You may not:
- circumvent, disable or tamper with the licensing mechanism, or use GitComet Pro without a valid entitlement;
- copy, redistribute, resell, rent, lend or sublicense the software or a licence, or share an account with others;
- remove or alter any copyright, licence or attribution notice;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the software, except to the extent that this restriction is unenforceable under applicable law — in particular, nothing here removes the rights EU law gives you to decompile for interoperability purposes.
These restrictions apply to the Pro software. They do not apply to the open-source edition, whose licence permits all of this and more.
5. Prices, VAT and how amounts are determined
GitComet Pro is sold as three licences, shown with their prices in the account application at pro.gitcomet.dev:
- Early Access License: a one-time payment of €20. It includes product updates until further notice and six months of email support from the date of purchase.
- Personal licence: €4 per month, billed annually (€48 a year).
- Organisation licence: €4 per user per month, billed annually, for a minimum of two users.
Prices exclude VAT. The exact total for your country is shown at checkout before you pay. As a worked example, a €20 Early Access License costs €25.10 for a consumer in Finland. A business elsewhere in the EU that supplies a valid VAT number is zero-rated and pays the net amount.
The amount you are charged is determined by the plan you chose, the number of seats where the plan is per-seat, and the tax that applies to your billing address and tax status at the moment of the charge. Tax is calculated at checkout and again at each renewal, so keep the address and VAT number on your billing profile up to date — an out-of-date address can cause a renewal to fail.
The Early Access License is a time-limited launch offer. When it is withdrawn it stops appearing for sale. Every Early Access License already bought is left exactly as it was; withdrawing the offer does not shorten, change or revoke it.
Updates until further notice. An Early Access License includes new versions of GitComet Pro until we announce that its update period has ended. After that, the versions released before the end keep working under your licence, with no further payment, for as long as we operate the licence service. If we ever stop operating it, we will make reasonable efforts to let you keep using your last version.
6. What a purchase includes
What you buy is what the plan lists on the day you buy it. We may extend capabilities added later to existing licences, but we are not obliged to.
7. Renewals, payment and cancellation
Payment is taken by Stripe. We never see or hold your card number.
An Early Access License is a single payment. There is nothing to renew and nothing to cancel.
Personal and Organisation licences are subscriptions billed annually. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each year, at the price then in force for your plan, using the payment method you saved at checkout, until you cancel. We will tell you before any price change takes effect for you, in time for you to cancel if you would rather not continue.
If a payment fails, your licence keeps working for a short grace period, currently three days, while Stripe retries the payment. If it still has not gone through, access stops until it is settled.
You can cancel at any time, from the billing portal linked in your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for — you keep access until then, and you are not charged again. We do not offer pro-rata refunds for the unused part of a period, beyond section 9 and anything your statutory rights give you.
Payment methods, cancellation and invoices are handled in Stripe's billing portal.
8. Organisations and seats
An organisation holds one licence covering its members, and membership is the seat. There is no separate seat to assign: adding somebody to the organisation uses a seat, removing them frees one.
- An organisation buys between 2 and 500 seats. If you need more than 500, ask us.
- Seat increases are confirmed by an administrator, who is shown the prorated amount for the rest of the current period before confirming. An increase is charged immediately; a decrease is not refunded but reduces the next renewal.
- Seat changes are made in the account application, which does not let the count fall below the number of people who hold seats.
- Invitations expire after a limited time.
- Removing a member frees the seat but does not change the subscription. Reduce the seat count separately if you want to stop paying for it.
- Deleting an organisation waits 30 days. During that time its licences are suspended and its data is kept, so an administrator can restore it. After 30 days it is purged and its subscription ends. A renewal that falls due during those 30 days is still charged; if the organisation is not restored, write to
gitcomet@gitcomet.devand we will refund it.
An administrator acts for the organisation. An organisation administrator represents and warrants that they have authority to act on behalf of the organisation. If you join an organisation that holds a licence, that organisation's administrators can see your membership and role and can remove you, ending your access to the licence.
9. If you are a consumer: your right to withdraw
If you are buying as a consumer in the EU or EEA, you can withdraw from a purchase within 14 days of the day you bought it, without giving a reason, even if you have already started using GitComet Pro. This applies to a first subscription payment and to an Early Access License.
To withdraw, email gitcomet@gitcomet.dev within those 14 days from the address on your account, saying which purchase you are withdrawing from. You can use the EU model withdrawal form, but you do not have to. We confirm by email and refund the full amount, to the payment method you used, within 14 days of receiving your message. Withdrawing ends the licence, and for a subscription it ends the subscription.
One thing you should know about refunds and Early Access Licenses. A refunded or revoked licence stops being renewed once we have processed it, but the lease already on your machine continues to work until it expires. For a subscription that is at most 72 hours. For an Early Access License it can be up to 90 days. We would rather state that than have you discover it.
None of this affects your statutory rights, including your rights if the software is faulty or not as described.
10. Downloads and updates
Downloads of GitComet Pro are available to licence holders and are authenticated against your licence. Builds may carry an identifier associating them with the licence they were downloaded under. Do not pass them on: a copy you distribute is traceable, and distributing it breaches section 4.
11. Connecting your code-hosting providers
You can connect GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps and self-hosted equivalents. A connection is made from GitComet Pro on your device: the resulting credential is stored only in that device's credential store, and GitComet Pro uses it to talk directly to the provider when you ask it to. We do not receive or hold your forge credentials, and your repositories and forge requests do not pass through our servers.
You are responsible for the permissions you grant, and for making sure you are entitled to grant them for the repositories concerned. You can disconnect an account at any time in GitComet Pro, which removes the credential from the device; you should also revoke the authorisation at the provider.
12. AI features
AI assistance is off by default. If you turn it on, you choose the destination: a tool already on your machine, a model running locally, or an endpoint and API key of your own.
We do not host, proxy or observe any of it. Where you point the feature at a third-party service, that service's terms and privacy policy govern what you send it, and we are not a party to that arrangement. Satisfy yourself that sending your code or commit messages to it is something you and your employer are content with.
13. Acceptable use
Do not use GitComet Pro or our services to break the law, to infringe anybody's rights, to attack or overload our systems or anybody else's, to get around usage limits or abuse controls, or to gain access to accounts or data that are not yours. Do not misrepresent your affiliation with us.
14. Availability and support
We work to keep the service available and we do not offer a service level agreement. The service can be unavailable for maintenance, for reasons outside our control, or because something has gone wrong.
Email support at gitcomet@gitcomet.dev is included while a Personal or Organisation subscription is active, and for six months from purchase with an Early Access License. The community channels linked from gitcomet.dev are open to everyone, and we welcome early customers' feedback. We do not commit to a response time.
We aim to keep older versions of GitComet Pro working with our service. If a change on our side requires an update, licence holders can download it.
15. Third-party components
GitComet Pro includes open-source components under their own licences, including the open-source GitComet client under AGPL-3.0. Those licences govern those components and, where they grant you rights, prevail over these terms for that code. Attributions are listed in the product and in the repository's third-party notices.
Provider names and marks — GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Microsoft and others — belong to their owners and are used only to identify the service concerned.
16. Warranties and liability
GitComet Pro is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and we do not warrant that the software will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Git is a tool that changes your files. Keep backups, and keep your work pushed to a remote you control.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of business, or loss or corruption of data, and our total liability arising out of or in connection with these terms is limited to the amounts you paid us in the 12 months before the claim — or, for an Early Access License, the price you paid for it.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that may not be excluded under the law that applies to you. If you are a consumer, your mandatory statutory rights are unaffected by this section.
17. Suspension and termination
You can stop using GitComet Pro at any time, cancel a subscription from the billing portal, and delete your account from your security settings. Deleting your account ends any subscription immediately, without a refund for the rest of the period, and ends an Early Access License held by the account. Cancel first and keep the account until the period ends if you want to use what you have paid for.
We may suspend or end your licence if a payment is refunded or charged back, if we find fraud or abuse, if you breach these terms, or if the organisation holding your licence is deleted. Where the circumstances allow it, we may tell you first and give you a chance to put it right.
Ending a licence does not entitle you to a refund except as set out in section 9 or as required by law. Sections 4, 15, 16 and 19 survive.
18. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. For material changes we will give reasonable notice — by email or in the application — before they take effect, and the date at the top of this page will change. If you do not accept a change, stop using the service and, where you hold a subscription, cancel it before the change takes effect.
19. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Finland, and the courts of Finland have jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings in your own courts. You can also take a dispute to the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board (kuluttajariitalautakunta.fi), after first contacting the Consumer Advisory Service.
